OFF TO A GREAT START GRANT
TERMS AND CONDITIONS 2025

  1. The promoter is: Yamaha Music Australia Pty Ltd (YMA), whose registered office is at 80 Market St, South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
  2. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to apply for this Grant.
  3. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
  4. The promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the Grant and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God, or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation, any other event outside of the promoter's control or for any reason.
  5. The promoter is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with this Grant.
  6. No cash alternative to the Grant will be offered. The Grant items are not transferable. Grant items are subject to availability, and we reserve the right to substitute any item with another of equivalent value without giving notice.
  7. By entering a submission for this Grant, an entrant indicates his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  8. The Grant and these terms and conditions are governed by Australian law, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Australia's courts.
  9. Submitting an application to the Grant will be deemed as acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  10. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook, Twitter, or any other Social Network. You are providing your information to Yamaha Music Australia and their Selection Panel and not to any other party. The information provided will be used in conjunction with the Privacy Policy found at au.yamaha.com.
  11. Applications must be received between January 28, 2025, and April 14, 2025 (via au.yamaha.com/en/support/greatstart/great_start_grant). Winners will be notified by May 30, 2025.
  12. Applicants must make themselves available for an interview between April 15, 2025, and May 19, 2025, by YMA if requested and identified as a top 10 applicant. If the applicant is not available, they will no longer be eligible to receive the Grant.
  13. Only Australian Accredited primary or secondary schools can apply for and be the Grant recipient.
  14. The recipient school(s) will be chosen by YMA according to the Selection Panel selection criteria. The recipient school will be eligible to receive Yamaha drum and percussion instruments and equipment, including Paiste cymbals, tailored to enhance their music program, with a total value of $10,000 RRP
  15. All freight costs relating to the delivery of the Grant will be covered by YMA. The Grant will be delivered to the recipient school by a carrier of YMA choosing.
  16. The recipient school must not sell the equipment received for a minimum period of 5 years; if the school sells any instrument from the Grant during this period, YMA reserves the right to charge the school for the instrument's cost.
  17. Fraudulent or misleading information in the application will deem the school disqualified from consideration. If the recipient school is found to have misled YMA, they will be charged the instruments' wholesale cost.
  18. The recipient school must show intentions to make use of the gear provided, or Yamaha Music Australia may award the grant to another school.
  19. If circumstances change significantly between awarding the grant and receiving the equipment, Yamaha Music Australia may revoke the grant.
  20. The recipient school must use the entire $10,000 at RRP by November, 2025
  21. The recipient school will be decided by the Selection Panel at their discretion by assessing the school's application against the selection criteria. The Selection Panel selection process will be final and confidential. No correspondence will be entered into about the decision.
  22. A representative of the recipient school must participate in an interview at the request of YMA; this may be filmed or recorded and used in a promotion such as (including but not limited to) print, digital, and video marketing. If the applicant is not available, they will be excluded from the Grant.
  23. The recipient school will allow YMA to use their name as Grant's recipient in promotion, such as (including but not limited to) print, digital, and video marketing.
  24. The recipient school will provide YMA with the support and resource to gain parental approval for images of Grant items within the school. These images will be used for the promotion of YMA in a reasonable manner such as (including but not limited to) print, digital, and video marketing.

DEFINITIONS

Selection Panel
The YMA appointment group who will decide which applicant school will be the recipient school. This panel will include at least one independent member who is not employed by YMA.

Accreditation A school which is recognised by the Australian government as a lawful education primary or secondary institution.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The Selection Panel will evaluate applicant schools based on how effectively their application demonstrates the potential benefits of the grant, their commitment to providing the necessary staff and space resources to support a drum and percussion program, and the following criteria relevant to an instrumental music program.

  • Impact on Students
    • How the grant will directly benefit students, including increased access to quality instruments, enhanced learning opportunities, or support for new or existing drum and percussion programs.
  • Commitment to Music Education
    • Evidence of the school’s dedication to fostering music education, including existing programs, teaching resources, and efforts to build or sustain a strong music culture.
  • Community Contribution
    • The extent to which the school’s music program engages with and contributes to the wider community (e.g., performances, outreach activities, or collaboration with local organisations).
  • Demonstrated Need
    • The school’s current challenges or limitations in providing drum and percussion education, such as outdated or insufficient equipment, lack of access to instruments, or funding constraints.
  • Vision for Growth
    • A clear and compelling plan for how the grant will be used to transform or expand the school’s drum and percussion program, including innovative ideas or long-term goals for music education.
  • Sustainability of the Program
    • The school’s capacity to sustain and grow its drum and percussion program over time, including staff resources, physical space, and ongoing student participation.
  • Inclusivity and Accessibility
    • How the grant will support diverse student populations, ensuring all students have the opportunity to engage in and benefit from music education.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Schools will need to provide the following via our online portal at au.yamaha.com/en/support/greatstart/great_start_grant to be considered:

Provide Contact Information

  • Submit the contact details of a representative, including their name, position, and relationship to the school.
Showcase Your Current Setup
  • Upload photos or videos of your current drum and percussion facilities (or lack thereof). This visual representation should highlight any challenges, outdated equipment, or areas where improvement is needed.
Outline Existing Music Activities
  • Provide an overview of your school’s current curricular and co-curricular music activities, if any. Include details such as:
    • Number of students involved.
    • Types of instruments currently in use.
    • Staff allocated to music education.
    • Available teaching spaces for drum and percussion programs.
Submit a Formal Request for Assistance
  • Provide a clear and specific explanation of why your school needs this grant. Highlight your challenges, such as funding constraints, outdated resources, or a lack of access to drum and percussion instruments.
Share Your Vision for Growth
  • Describe how receiving this grant will transform or enhance your drum and percussion program. Include details about the equipment you hope to acquire (e.g., Yamaha Rydeen acoustic drum kit, Paiste 18” Crash Cymbal, 3-octave vibraphone) and the expected long-term impact on your students and school community.
Demonstrate Community Engagement
  • Explain how your music program contributes to the broader community (e.g., public performances, outreach initiatives) and how the grant will enhance these efforts.
