From the comfort of your home or studio, join Carly for a casual conversation with special guest, Tim Minchin. An opportunity to chat to a formidable Australian comedian, actor, writer, musician, poet, composer, songwriter and Yamaha artist.

One of the world’s most popular Aussie live acts, he has been selling out award-winning gigs in the UK, US and Australia for over a decade. His most recent tour, Back, was seen by over a quarter of a million people.

Minchin is the composer-lyricist of the hit musical, Matilda, which won 85 international awards and recently celebrated 10 years on the West End. His second musical, Groundhog Day, won the Best Musical Olivier Award (West End) and was nominated for 7 Tonys (Broadway).

Conversations with Carly is a fly-on-the-wall chance for piano teachers to gain insight into the world of those they know, and perhaps some they do not, in music education. Designed to connect us when we might be far apart.

Tim Minchin is an Australian musician, comedian, writer and actor.

He co-wrote and starred in the TV series Upright, (2019 Sky UK / Foxtel), which won AACTA awards for Best Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy. Season 2 drops 2022.

Other acting credits include Atticus Fetch in Californication, a Logie Award-winning Smasher in the ABC’s Secret River, Pretty Boy in Netflix’s Back To The Outback and Friar Tuck in Lionsgate’s Robin Hood. Stage highlights include Judas in the UK / Australian Arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.

His 2020 studio album Apart Together debuted at #3 in Australia and top 30 in the UK.

Upright Series 2 will screen on Foxtel/Sky Atlantic in mid November with the Netflix produced feature of Matilda the Movie released at the end of 2022.

Carly McDonald is a highly regarded Australian piano pedagogue and presenter, seeking to connect teachers with creative ideas and strong business acumen. Carly established her music studio, Novar Music, in South Australia in 2005. In addition to teaching, she manages 25 teachers in 5 locations across South Australia. As author of blog Creative.Piano.Professional, Carly provides thought leadership in early music education and studio business. She is the Creative Editor of The Piano Teacher magazine, Editor of The Piano Teacher Hub Australia, Australian Ambassador for the Piano Adventures series by Randall and Nancy Faber and co-editor of the “I Want To Play That” piano series. She is passionate about working with musicians to develop a strong foundation of skills for self-expression throughout their lives.
