Yamaha releases ground-breaking NS-5000 Speakers in Australia

From the biggest sound company in the world comes the latest instalment in a rich history of products that have shaped the way we listen to high-fidelity audio.

Introducing Yamaha’s much-anticipated NS-5000 Speaker, following in the footsteps of the legendary NS-1000M Speaker by introducing revolutionary Speaker design and re-establishing the benchmark for Hi-Fi performance. The flagship Speaker echoes the core design principles and philosophies of the iconic NS-1000M, yet encapsulates a bold new direction in Speaker technology.

Departing from conventional wisdom, the development of the NS-5000 started with the selection of a new diaphragm material. ZYLON®, a synthetic polymer boasting an acoustic characteristic markedly different from that of any other diaphragm material, was chosen for its exceptionally high tensile strength and acoustic velocity, as well as the ability to reproduce audio equivalent to that produced by beryllium, but without a sharp resonance peak inherent in a hard material.

“The use of ZYLON® for the tweeter, mid-range and woofer makes the NS-5000 unlike any other Speaker you’ve heard before”, explains Damien Henderson – Product Manager for Yamaha Music Australia’s AV Division. “Yamaha began working with ZYLON® as a diaphragm material back in 2008, so we’re excited to finally introduce the world’s first set of drivers 100% made from ZYLON®.”

Inside the Speaker enclosure, the NS-5000 adopts a radically different approach to suppressing unnecessary tube resonance behind the tweeter and mid-range. A newly-developed R.S. Chamber (Resonance Suppression Chamber) utilises proprietary acoustic analysis to cancel tube resonance – achieving higher-resolution audio reproduction by eliminating the need for a large quantity of sound-absorbing material inside the enclosure.

Furthermore, a new acoustic absorber was designed specifically for the NS-5000 to mitigate standing waves without requiring large amounts of sound-absorbing material. The result is the virtual elimination of standing waves with amazing efficiency and pin-point accuracy.

In selecting a cabinet material, laminated plywood made of white birch from the island of Hokkaido was chosen for its mechanical strength and acoustic properties. Exhibiting Yamaha’s unmatched expertise in working with wood, every knot and hole was painstakingly removed to ensure the utmost quality of the cabinet structure. A luxurious Piano finish was also adopted using the same dedicated paint, primer and polishing processes used for Yamaha's world-class Grand Pianos.

The NS-5000 will make its Australian debut at the Australian Hi-Fi and AV Show, hosted by the InterContinental (Melbourne) from the 21st to 23rd October 2016.

The NS-5000 has a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of $19,999 and is backed by a 10-year Manufacturer’s Warranty.
