Jazz legend Chick Corea performs Yamaha CFX on historic Australian and New Zealand tour with Herbie Hancock

Yamaha’s flagship concert grand piano has been showcased in major cities across Australia and New Zealand by legend of Jazz and Yamaha Artist, Chick Corea. Chick recently completed an historic tour with Herbie Hancock in June, performing in Brisbane (Queensland Performing Arts Centre), Melbourne (Hamer Hall), Sydney (Sydney Opera House) and Auckland (Civic Theatre).

In terms of influential and revered jazz pianists, you can’t pack more of a punch than this combination of jazz royalty. Though over half a century the two have clocked up around a dozen Australian tours between them, loyal audiences were treated to an interactive experience, containing an impressive mix of free improvisation, new works and classic compositions interspersed with charming chatter between the two musicians.

The Melbourne performance was the grand opening of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, of which Yamaha Music Australia is a sponsor. The sell-out crowd necessitated a second concert to be scheduled at Melbourne Recital Centre, where both Chick and Herbie performed on two back to back CFXs. Chick also performed on a Motif XF8.

Yamaha’s CFX concert grand piano has been met the world over with critical acclaim from jazz and classical pianists alike. Chick Corea describes the CFX as “my favourite piano of all time”.

CFX

The CF Series pianos are characterised by a wide palette of tonal colors and the ability to create the most subtle expressive nuances. The CF Series pianos can "sing" phrases with a depth of expressiveness rarely heard. The nine foot CFX has a powerful bass and all registers can project over the sound of a symphony orchestra, even in very large halls.
