Biography

Maria Moles was born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1988. In 2013, Maria completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at The Victorian College of the Arts, in which she undertook private study with some of Australia’s most prestigious drummers; including Simon Barker, Graham Morgan, and Dave Beck. Maria currently performs extensively around Melbourne with various ensembles. In May 2015, she toured Europe with Melbourne based guitarist Adam Halliwell.

The duo performed at venues and festivals throughout Germany, France and Italy. Some Australian festivals that Maria has performed at include Falls Festival, Mona Foma, Sound Out Festival, Women's International Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, St Kilda Festival, End Of The Line, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Folk Rhythm and Life.

As drummer for Melbourne outfit Jaala, Maria has has showcased at Bigsound, an annual Brisbane based music industry conference that showcases artists that are believed to be the future of Australian music, and toured with two-time Grammy award nominated neo-soul outift Hiatus Kaiyote to sold out audiences on their national ‘Choose Your Weapon’ tour in December 2015. 2016 saw Jaala support acts such as The Internet, Policia, Methyl Ethel and appear at Tasmania's annual Dark Mofo festival.
