Gareth Thomson

Gareth Thomson is one of the most exciting proponents of the new generation of Australian drummers, fast gaining a reputation for his energetic, musical and multifaceted approach

Since picking up the sticks at a young age, Gareth has studied with with a diverse range of drummers such as Simon Barker, John Riley, Jim Black, Dave Elitch, Jim Piesse and Mark Guiliana. Graduating from the Victorian College of The Arts in 2011, he has gone on to work with the Victorian Opera, Kate Kelsey-Sugg, Peter Combe, Umlaut, Elana Stone, and Au Dre just to name a few.

Gareth currently acts as drummer and producer for Sex On Toast, a 9-piece outfit specialising in 1980’s synth-funk, horn-driven blue-eyed soul and raw improvisation. Sex On Toast has been growing since its inception as a high school band to headlining major festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Lost Paradise Festival, and Falls Festival, both in Australia and New Zealand.
