PHILOSOPHY

THE MORE YOU PLAY, THE MORE YOU DISCOVER

Yamaha grand pianos respond with extraordinary sensitivity to every note that you play, capturing every emotion and inspiring you to ever greater creativity.

We strive to create an instrument which comes together in perfect harmony with the player, realizing every detail of the performance, just as it was envisioned. Subtle nuances are profoundly expressed in a unique conversation that takes place between player and instrument, with the player continuously inspired by new creative possibilities. The more you play, the closer you get to your musical goals, and the more ambitious they become.

Yamaha grand pianos evolve endlessly to help the player share their closest musical sensibilities and fully achieve their personal potential.

A PIANO THAT GIVES VOICE TO YOUR EMOTIONS

Yamaha grand pianos embody the unique design philosophy of a “singing” piano—giving the player the freedom of expression like that of a singer who naturally expresses their feelings from within, giving them a voice and transforming their emotions into sound. The player’s musical thoughts, expressively conveyed by their fingertips, are reproduced with identical delicate nuance—faithfully reflecting the player’s emotions as if the very intent itself is resonating in the air. Drawing on our meticulous study of how the energy of pressing a key produces sound and how that sound is radiated in space, we have crafted a piano which incorporates this “singing” capability within the body of the instrument.

BRINGING THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUAL PARTS TO LIFE

Yamaha craftsmen truly believe that a piano is a living creation. Thousands of individual parts come together to create a piano, nearly all of which are made from natural materials. We view the piano as having one, large life of its own, created by the combination of many others to create an infinite variety of sounds.

We also believe that the joy of a piano is to serve the player who performs on it and to respond sensitively to the expression conveyed by their fingertips—and that each and every piano we make carefully harbors the sound as it should be. The artistry of the piano truly blossoms when the meticulous craftsmanship that brings out the intrinsic worth from the natural materials and the manufacturing technology are in perfect harmony.

MATERIALS

For over half a century, Yamaha has been one of the few manufacturers in the world that consistently engages in the critical tasks of piano production, such as the procurement of materials used as well as the processing and assembly of parts. Yamaha grand pianos are crafted from wood carefully selected and collected from all over the world, and parts carefully finished one by one by skilled craftsmen—using only materials and parts that reflect Yamaha's ideals and commitments, under the strictest and most thorough quality control processes.

CRAFTMANSHIP

In order to create a Yamaha grand piano with its unique “singing” capability, it is essential to strike the perfect balance between expert craftsmanship that has been passed down through the ages and the advanced technology that supports it. Yamaha uses technology that enables precision manufacturing to maintain stable quality at a superior level, while distilling the skills and sensibilities of our craftsmen into every detail, maximizing the delicate individuality of each piano.

THE PIANO: FOREVER ENRICHING THE FUTURE

It is our hope that pianos, which rely on many natural gifts in their manufacture, will continue to deliver their rich sound to many people for eternity. In order to realize such a world, Yamaha conducts various activities whilst thinking deeply about everything related to the piano, including the “natural environment,” “learning,” and “manufacturing.”
