Biography
Louisa Trewartha leads a diverse musical career as a composer, trumpet player, and educator. She completed a BMus in 2010 at the University of Melbourne, and in 2013 studied at the Australian National Academy of Music, mentored by trumpet pedagogues David Elton and Tristram Williams. As an orchestral trumpet player Louisa has performed with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, and since 2009 has played in over 40 operas and ballets with Orchestra Victoria. Here she performs on a YTR-9445NYS-YM C trumpet and a YCR-8335G Bb Cornet. Outside of the orchestral world Louisa regularly plays in recording sessions, chamber and brass concerts, and with choirs often on piccolo trumpet, flugelhorn, and baroque trumpet. Louisa has performed at the Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, Royal Concertgebouw, Shanghai Concert Hall, and the Berlin Konzerthaus, and has performed under renowned conductors Sir Mark Elder, Simone Young, Christoph Eschenbach, and Barry Wordsworth, and with soloists such as Bryn Terfel, Jonas Kauffman, Joshua Bell, and William Barton.
Louisa completed a Masters in Scoring for Film and Visual Media in 2016 at Pulse College, Dublin, and in 2017 participated in the Australian Composers School with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. She has since been commissioned to write larger ensemble works for groups such as Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, The Regional Centre for Culture, and The Mid America Freedom Band, and chamber works for Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Solstice Trio, Duo Eclettico, and Three Shades Black.
As a music educator Louisa has tutored with the Australian Youth Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Orchestras, Young Mannheim Symphonists, and the Orchestra Victoria mOVe program. She has been the Musical Director of the A-grade brass band Footscray-Yarraville City Band since 2019. Louisa is a private trumpet teacher and has adjudicated at numerous competitions.
