Biography
Bruce Thompson is one of Western Australia’s most sought-after brass performers and educators. He held the position of Associate Principal Trombone with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra for sixteen years and has appeared as a soloist with many ensembles including the West Australian and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras’, the Perth Pops Orchestra, the Midland Brick Brass Band, the combined UWA/ECU Wind Ensemble and the Perth Fortress Salvation Army Band.
Bruce has performed with artists and ensembles such as the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Shirley Bassey, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Tom Burlinson, Jamie Oehlers, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Virtuosi of Prague, Tina Arena, Michael Bolton and the Perth Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed in pit orchestras for the Perth seasons of musicals such as Matilda, Singing in the Rain, Les Miserables, Wicked, The Book of Mormon, Aladdin, West Side Story, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, A Chorus Line and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
He has previously taught trombone at both the University of Western Australia and the WA Academy of Performing Arts for many years, and has directed the brass ensemble at both institutions. Bruce is currently the Head of Music at Carey Baptist College, whilst also maintaining a busy performing schedule.
